The Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA) is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the Warrior Bunkhouse at Camp Stillwater, the site of one of four (4) future WWIA Regional Healing Centers across the country, on 21 September 2013.

The Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA) is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the Warrior Bunkhouse at Camp Stillwater, the site of one of four (4) future WWIA Regional Healing Centers across the country, on 21 September 2013.

Established in 2007, WWIA is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Apollo Beach Florida.  They serve our Nation’s combat wounded Purple Heart recipients by providing world-class outdoor sporting activities as a means to recognize and honor their sacrifice, encourage independence and connections with communities, and promote healing and wellness through camaraderie and a shared passion for the outdoors.

Four (4) combat wounded Purple Heart Recipients will be in attendance. After the Grand Opening Event, they will be the first Heroes to stay in Camp Stillwater’s WWIA Bunkhouse while spending the weekend fishing with John Koenig of John’s Guide Service.  John McDaniel, Founder and CEO of WWIA, will also attend the event.

Building the bunkhouse puts Camp Stillwater one step closer to the final goal of providing a regionally located American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant Healing Center where Wounded Warriors of all types can attend guided hunts and fishing excursions, regardless of their disability.  Once completed, this Camp, along with three others across the country, will allow Wounded Warriors to serve other Wounded Warriors for many years to come.

The WWIA is exceptionally grateful to the Koenig’s for spearheading this venture as well as the support of the Skagit Island County Builders Association (SICBA) for providing the labor, materials, and expertise to make this bunkhouse a reality.

John J. McDaniel (LTC Ret. Founder/CEO, WWIA) “We are humbled and honored to have such great support for this effort.  With the amazing support of the Koenig’s and the generous donation of time, effort and materials valued at $90,000 from the Skagit Island Builders Association, we can now provide even more support to our nation’s Wounded Warriors.”

John and Corrina Koenig, (Senior Associates and Field Coordinators, WWIA) “We feel truly blessed to be a small part of this wonderful organization.  The question for us has never been what can we do for these heroes, but what else can we do.  We could not have done any of this without the generous support of Homes for Heroes, Skagit Island County Builders Association and our Skagit County Upriver Community.

Charles “Wayne” Crider (Executive Director, SICBA) “The Skagit /Island Counties Builders Association was honored to be given the opportunity to help our Nations Combat Wounded Veterans by building the facility at Camp Stillwater for the Wounded Warriors In Action Foundation. We fully understand and appreciate the sacrifice every service member makes for our freedom and wanted to show this in our commitment to this cause. We hope this multipurpose retreat accurately shows our appreciation for the sacrifices those Wounded Warriors who have the opportunity to use the facility have made for us and our country.”

Press and general public are invited to meet the four heroes attending, tour the bunkhouse and show their support of all combat wounded heroes.
