A new category for Digital Innovation and more opportunities for broadcast and online work – including categories dedicated to local, national and international coverage – are offered by the 2012 Scripps Howard Awards competition.
Since 1953 the Scripps Howard Foundation has recognized the best work in journalism through its national journalism awards program. Winners of the 2012 Scripps Howard Awards will receive distinctive trophies plus cash awards totaling $175,000. Prizes range from $10,000 to the $15,000 Ursula and Gilbert Farfel Prize for investigative reporting.
The competition is open to U.S.-based media outlets, their staff members and freelance contributors. Most categories recognize excellence across the multiple platforms of print, broadcast and online media. Several are open to news magazines. Scripps Howard Awards are no longer offered for Washington Reporting and Editorial Cartooning.
