Próis has long recognized the impact that the influx of women into the hunting and shooting industries has had.  Great news…now we can PROVE it!  Not that we think there are naysayers.  Nope.  We are actually just funky data geeks and get very excited when numbers support passion.

Most recently, a 2013 National Sporting Goods Association reports that shooting sports with firearms experienced double digit growth with female participation increasing by over 27%. http://www.nsga.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=4653

But wait.  There’s more.  We told you already…despite the fact that we love Cheetos, unicorns and various shenanigans, we are indeed data geeks.

In a recent article by RMEF, female hunters account for up to $5.9 billion per year in economic output. Although female hunters only comprise about 9% of the total number of hunters according the most recent statistics, the number of female hunters is increasing in leaps and bounds.  The following statistics were taken from the same article.

• According to CBS News, the national total for female gun owners has doubled over the last decade, increasing to nearly 5 million women since 2001.
• The National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association for the shooting, hunting and outdoor industry, reports that 61 percent of its member companies noted an increase in female customers between 2009 and 2010. 

Furthermore, the NSSF 2011 Industry Report shows that women comprised 13% or 2.3 million of the nation’s firearms hunters in 2002 and the percentage rose to 16% and 2.9 million in 2009, the last year for which statistic are available from NSSF.  The statistics also demonstrate that although the median age for male hunters has been increasing steadily for almost 20 years, the median age for female hunters has been decreasing.  Younger women getting into hunting bodes very well for the future of the sport when the number of hunters has overall been decreasing.  Also in the most recent NSSF report, more women than men or children took up hunting in 2009.  While total hunters in the U.S. decreased slightly (.05 percent) between 2008 and 2009, the number of female hunters increased by 5.4 percent, netting 163,000 new participants. Growth areas for women included muzzleloading (up 134.6 percent), bowhunting (up 30.7 percent) and hunting with firearms (up 3.5 percent).  Data also show women outpaced men among net newcomers to target shooting with a rifle, where female participation grew by 4.1 percent.  http://www.nhfday.org/Page/press-release-Women-Outpace-Men-as-New-Hunters-.aspx
