During Ducks Unlimited’s annual convention held recently in Portland, Ore., Louisiana resident John Newman was elected chairman of the board of one of the largest waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization.
During Ducks Unlimited’s annual convention held recently in Portland, Ore., Louisiana resident John Newman was elected chairman of the board of one of the largest waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization.
“For the past 15 years, John has been an integral part of DU’s board of directors,” said DU CEO Dale Hall. “He’s led numerous committees and volunteered countless hours to further the mission of this great organization. I can’t think of a better, more deserving volunteer than John to lead DU’s board for the next two years.”
As chairman, it is Newman’s responsibility to ensure DU adheres to its purposes and objectives as set out in the organization’s bylaws. He will lead board meetings; attend international, national, regional, state and local events as a representative of DU; and serve as a member of DU Canada’s board of directors. He will also serve as a trustee of Wetlands America Trust, the endowment and landholding arm of DU.
“In my tenure on the board of directors, I’ve seen quite a few changes within the organization,” Newman said. “And I’m proud to say that, through it all, DU still remains one of the largest, most trusted conservation organizations in the nation. I plan to continue this trend and help this organization I love so much excel.”
A true conservationist and avid hunter, Newman graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in business administration. He was a partner with Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young for 30 years and now leads the financial department of LLOG Exploration – one of the largest gas and oil exploration companies in the Gulf of Mexico – as chief financial officer. He and his wife, Geni, have three children and one grandson.
