The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reported (June 6, 2014) that a group of 40 pro-sportsmen’s organizations sent a letter to the U.S. Senate urging passage of a bill that includes relief for journalists/media who need to film on public lands, but are being charged exorbitant fees or being denied access.

POMA has been fighting on behalf of the outdoor media to see passage of similar legislation for years. This is the first time a Senate bill with bipartisan support has been introduced.

POMA urges members who believe the laws relating to the levy of fees for journalists to film hunting, fishing and other legal activities on public lands must be changed, to contact their senators and urge them to pass S. 2363. Also inform listeners, readers and viewers and urge them to contact their Senators.

More than 40 national pro-sportsmen’s and pro-conservation organizations are urging expedited U.S. Senate passage of S. 2363, the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act of 2014. This historic legislation is the most important package of measures for the benefit of sportsmen in a generation and the NSSF’s number one priority in the Senate. A similar bill recently passed in the House of Representatives.

In addition to setting up a reasonably priced annual permit for journalists filming on public lands, this vital piece of legislation will: prevent the restriction of hunters’ ammunition choices; provide state fish & wildlife agencies with more flexibility to use Pittman-Robertson funds to build and maintain badly needed public shooting ranges; and help facilitate and provide more access to federal lands and waters for hunting, recreational fishing, and shooting.
