Jan. 17, 2015 (Kalispell, Mont.)– On Friday Dec. 16, all six Extreme Huntress™ finalists reconvened in Dallas, Texas to find out who would be crowned the new 2015 Extreme Huntress. A lively crowd of 1,300 attendees at the annual Dallas Safari Club Convention gathered for the black tie award dinner.
After nine months of competition, Erika Bergmark earned the coveted title of 2015 Extreme Huntress. The 24 year old resident of a small town in Sweden is an avid and passionate hunter– sometimes logging over 150 days per year in the field. Bergmark reloads her own ammo and built her own shooting range so she can properly hone her rifle skills.
In her entry essay, Bergmark, who graduated from a hunting and wildlife management program in college, emphasized that ethics, as well as wise and sustainable wildlife management, are very important to her.
“The best hunters I know are also the ones that know the most about nature,” wrote Bergmark.
New this year, an exclusive Extreme Huntress award, hand-sculpted by respected artist Mark James, was presented to the winner.
“The competition was a great success,” stated Tom Opre, contest founder and owner of Tahoe Films, Ltd. “With six finalists coming from five different countries, we had a truly global competition this year. It shows that, more than ever before, women are solid players in the hunting arena. Our goal is to create positive role models for other women who want to hunt– and I think the Extreme Huntress Competition is accomplishing that goal.”
Bergmark, along with with five other semi-finalists, was selected to compete last July in a five day, head-to-head outdoor skills and hunting competition at the renowned 777 Ranch in Hondo, Texas. Bergmark was the overall highest scorer in the Extreme Huntress competition, after the judges’ scores, outdoor skills competition scores and public online voting scores were combined for each contestant.
Major sponsors of the Extreme Huntress™ Competition, presented by Brownells®, include the 777 Ranch, Brownells, Mossberg, Dallas Safari Club, Camp Chef and Coppersmith Global Logistics.
Women who wish to enter next year’s 2016 Extreme Huntress Competition can do so online, beginning Feb. 15, 2015. More info is available at http://www.extremehuntress.com/.
About the Extreme Huntress™ Competition
Now in it’s sixth year, the Extreme Huntress™ Competition is about preserving our outdoor heritage. Our goal is to create positive role models for all women who want to participate in hunting. With a fifty-percent divorce rate, there are a lot of kids who won’t get into traditional outdoor sports unless mom does. We feel if mom goes hunting, so will her children– and the whole family.
