Driftwood Outdoors

It’s been an Interesting April

Turkey season is in full swing, crappie are biting, morel mushrooms are popping and the weather at night is perfect for sleeping in a tent. While many aspects of this spring are normal, we have been living through unprecedented times. Truthfully, I don’t know if I have ever been more thankful to be blessed with a passion for the outdoors. As I read and listen to friends complain about the anguish of being stuck with “nothing to do,” I am instead overwhelmed with opportunities to fish local farm ponds, hunt strutters deep in the forest, walk shallow creeks looking for arrowheads and endure endless thorns searching mushrooms. Studies are showing a serious increase in prescription medications for anxiety and depression. I wonder if a little more time spent in nature could instead be the answer? If you have a chance, now would be a great time to introduce a new person to fishing, hunting or foraging.

See you down the trail…

Throw a few of those over a medium-rare venison filet paired with a nice red wine and you’ll understand why mushroom hunters take the secrets of their best spots to the grave…continue reading
