Mikkel Anderson, of Aurora, Colo., was elected to Ducks Unlimited Inc.’s national board of directors during the organization’s annual convention held recently in Portland, Ore.

“The leadership of our board of directors ensures we are fulfilling our mission to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl,” said DU CEO Dale Hall. “Our board members are not paid for their work; rather they volunteer their time and resources because they feel so strongly about conservation. I welcome each new member and look forward to working with them in the years to come.”

Anderson has been involved with DU for many years and is currently serving as Colorado state policy chair. He previously served as Colorado’s state chair for two years.

Anderson says some key issues he would like to be involved with are DU’s work to preserve our hunting heritage for future generations and furthering our efforts on sharing water between waterfowl and humans in arid states. DU is forming unique partnerships with Colorado water users along the Platte River, including agriculture, businesses and communities, to provide them water by building recharge wetlands. The wetlands recharge the aquifer during times of low demand, allowing water users to pull more water out when they need it. At the same time, these wetlands provide crucial habitat for a wide range of game and non-game species.

“One of the reasons I’m involved in DU is the linkage between wetlands and human needs,” he said. “Here in the West, water is an enormous issue, and it’s getting bigger every day with population increases. I enjoy working on complex problems like this with a variety of interests, finding ways to meet everyone’s needs, and providing habitat for migratory waterfowl and other wildlife.
