Bass Pro Shops landed in Victory Lane thanks to NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray. The No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet SS was able to fend off the other drivers and race to a victory.
“Awesome job by our pit crew at the end,” said McMurray over his team radio after he took the checkered flag. “I can’t believe I’m here. For me and the car, this is as much fun as it gets.”
Driving for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, McMurray held off Kevin Harvick and raced to victory at the 1.5-mile oval track on May 17. Bass Pro Shops, the primary sponsor of the No. 1 car for the All-Star Race, paid tribute to the National Wild Turkey Federation’s conservation mission by donating a special paint scheme that featured America’s grandest game bird, the wild turkey.
Heading into the All-Star Race, McMurray had earned two top 10 finishes and ranked 23rd in the point standings for the 2014 season. The Joplin, Missouri native exploded onto the NASCAR scene when in 2002 he scored a win in his second-career Sprint Cup Series start. He has established himself as one of the top drivers scoring a seven career NASCAR Sprint Cup victories, including the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400.
“All of us at Bass Pro Shops are extremely proud of Jamie,” said Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris. “We dedicate this race to all our associates and customers who are racing fans.”
