Branson is nationally known for all their music and comedy shows, theme parks, museums, aquariums, shopping, golf, camping, hiking, fishing and all the other fun things there are to do in this special place located in the heart of America. It is also a popular destination for veterans and their families. Branson is also nationally recognized as one of the most patriotic cities in the country. The stars and stripes are displayed proudly throughout the town. Our military veterans have made a lot of sacrifices for all of us. We can never thank them enough.

Honoring veterans and active military is a year-round thing in Branson. Servicemen and women are honored with special deals and discounts, standing tributes during live shows, veterans memorials, displays, hosting military reunions and more. Branson works hard at honoring our heroes during their time there. Many of the veterans also enjoy a little time fishing on Branson’s three lakes or taking advantage of the many camping opportunities.

Veterans also enjoy going to the College of the Ozarks in Hollister (just outside of Branson) to see the Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial bearing the names of more than 1,400 Missourians who served and died in the Vietnam War. The Korean War Memorial is also on campus and honors the 36,574 Americans who sacrificed their lives in battle. The Global War on Terrorism Memorial represents all modern warriors who have fought for freedom. Other memorials in the college’s Patriots Park include the Missouri Gold Star Families Memorial, the Alumni Veterans Memorial and the September 11 “Lest We Forget” Memorial.

The Veterans Memorial Museum located on West 76 Country Boulevard is also a popular stop. Just look for the P-51 Mustang fighter. It is a moving tribute to those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces across all branches of service. Exhibits include sculptures, murals and thousands of pieces of military memorabilia. Displays throughout the museum show names of the soldiers killed in action since World War II.

Every year in November, Branson celebrates Veterans Homecoming Week. This year the event will take place November 5-11 with multiple tributes and celebrations of veterans as well as active service men and women. There will be many different opportunities for veterans and their families to be a part of including mini reunions, memorials, a military ball and the Veteran’s Day Parade in downtown Branson on Veterans’ Day.

The traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial “The Wall” will be at Branson’s Welk Resort throughout Veterans Homecoming Week. The wall lists more than 58,000 service members who died in Vietnam. Many of Branson’s famous shows will also be putting on special performances for the veterans and their families to honor them and say thanks.
